Renaissance Magic, Number, Science

In the interest of Pico, Reuchlin, Agrippa, and John Dee in number and
number symbolism as a way of manipulating the angel names of the Cabala,
we can perhaps find evidence that "Renaissance magic was turning towards
number as a possible key to operation," ironically a kind of early
development of applied mathematics to result in a changed approach to
man's problem of mastery and rational control of the physical universe.
